Bespoke, Hans Edward Hammonds

A work of art adapted specifically to your body, a work that is all about you. Over a duration of three days, Hammonds will establish a studio in Studio K's gallery space in Kverneland to actively create a collection of interactive sculptural textile works.

The exhibition Bespoke becomes part of a larger artistic exploration around the production of interactive art objects that invite participation. The sensual, the tactile, the material, the form and the collective experience of making together, are important elements in this project.

Hans Edward Hammonds (b. 1983) is a visual and performance artist based in Stavanger. Hammonds has a Master of Fine Arts from the Elam School of Fine Arts from The University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Hammonds' artistic practice explores collaboration, interaction and participation. He is interested in how a group of people or a collection of elements can collectively express or transform into new larger wholes.

The core of Hammond's practice is centered around creating an environment for participation, where participants are invited to engage in something together, at the same time, giving each individual or element room to express their own qualities.

Hammonds has led relational projects in schools, institutions and artist-run spaces. He has exhibited previously at Høstutstillingen, Vestlandsutstillingen and Stavanger Kunstmuseum. He has participated in interdisciplinary art projects internationally and in 2020 he was named The Children's City artist in Sandnes. Hammonds' upcoming exhibitions include a new participant-based work for the opening exhibition of the National Museum in 2022 and a solo exhibition at Soft Gallery in 2023.
