Structures of Support”, Kari Ann Lending Kleiveland

Throughout the month of September, a leaning exercise from the project "Structures of Support" will be presented at KRA (Kunst Rom Arbeid) in Stavanger. Visitors to KRA will have the opportunity to do this leaning exercise on the spot, and/or are free to take an instruction card with them and do the leaning exercise whenever and wherever they want.

"Structures of Support" examines the position of "leaning". Leaning, or "yielding", as Dr. Ruella Frank calls it, is about giving and receiving support - orienting yourself through weight and gravity. Movement is trust. Will the next move carry me? Is there ever a time when we don't lean? The project addresses questions such as when we trust ourselves and others, and explores the boundary between relying on external support and our own resources. Thematically, the work is a research of relationships, and an exploration of how relationships between people can be visualized through various exercises and materials. The leaning exercises are something that will be activated, repeated, practiced and developed. Through various exercises, opportunities are created for people to lean - to lean against, lean away from, experience support.

The leaning exercise that will be presented at KRA in September 2024 is part of a larger exploration, and a precursor to the display of the project in a larger format v/Tou in 2025. The project is supported by Stavanger municipality, Time municipality and the Bergesenstiftelsen.
