Studio K POP UP
Johannesgate 21, Stavanger
19th of April 2024, 18:00 – 20:00
Obs: one night only

In her solo exhibition, Katharina Bjelland launches her new book Me Time and presents a collection of sculptures and prints, exploring the interconnected aspects of work, economic freedom, and social hierarchy. Me Time is the result of an investigation into the in-house division of domestic labour in relation to individual needs, societal convention, and power structures within a household. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Katharina Bjelland’s book Me Time which is based on an online performance accomplished in the fitness tracking app Strava where she documented house- and care work. In addition, Bjelland will debut a series of new sculptures inspired by handmade floor cleaning mops.

Katharina Bjelland (b. 1979) is a German artist based in Stavanger, Norway. Bjelland’s artistic method is grounded in working with found materials, text, print and sculpture, finding her inspiration in everyday objects and situations. At the core of Bjelland's practice is an investigation into the daily struggle of balancing work, domestic labour and leisure. Bjelland graduated from Art School in Stavanger in 2021. She also holds a Master’s degree in business administration from Germany and has lived in London and Shanghai before moving to Stavanger with her young family.

The event is supported by Rogaland Fylkeskommune, Stavanger kommune and the Art Counsil.
