A Story., Roskva Yasmin Andersen
«A Story.», is a dance performance by Roskva Yasmin Andersen. Sometimes things happen that change life as you know it, in a smaller or bigger way. How do you cope with this new reality when you have questions that may not be answered and choices that are difficult to make. Roskva Yasmin Andersen is interested in relationships; the relationship to oneself, to one's own body, and to other people. How do we meet ourselves? How do we meet others?
“A Story.» is a dance performance that shares and touches through a personal story, a story about how Roskva Yasmin's own reality changed. The performance addresses questions about belonging and confusion. The body explores what is familiar and unfamiliar, searching through an occasional, chaotic landscape. Can the unfamiliar be safe? A Story. is a research into how our bodies and emotions are affected by soul-stirring events, a dance about big thoughts and strong emotions.
Roskva Yasmin Andersen (NO) is based in Bergen. She works in the field of contemporary dance where she creates her own work, and in collaborations with others. She wants to meet and touch an audience with a genuine human experience. We all have a body, and emotions, and can express them; with both words and movement. Connection is a key word influencing her artistic practice and work; focusing on how we connect to ourselves, to our bodies, and to each other. She seeks to make conceptual physical dance pieces that still communicate to a larger audience regardless of background or interests. It is not necessarily about understanding a certain intention or meaning; but experiencing, giving value to your own interpretation of what is shared.
Truth is dependent on our perspectives with our realities being formed by our interpretations of our surroundings. Inspired by Olafur Eliasson’s use of light and size in his installations to make us conscious of how we experience our environment, Andersen uses scenography with great visual impact on its own, whilst influencing the physical movement further and manipulating the space.
Andersen's first full production, Underneath, premiered at Oktoberdans 2018 by BIT teatergarasjen. Underneath has since then been performed in Oslo, Bergen, Sandnes, Kristiansand, and Multiplié Dansefestival. In April 2021 A Story., premiered at BIT teatergarasjen. She is also the founder of the festival DanseRom, a platform promoting audience development. Educated from Spin Off in Oslo, Amsterdam School of the Arts, Bachelor in Performing Arts, including Pedagogy, from University of Stavanger. She also did an exchange semester at Concordia University in Montreal, 2015.
