Berøringer, Trude Berg

Trude Berg's ceramic structures are visually linked to architectural elements, supporting structures, tools and armors. Built in fragile ceramics, the works are not depictions of reality, but symbolize the complexity of the human condition and our interactions. Equally strange as recognizable, Berg ́s ever changeable structures question what is often unnoticed or considered as insignificant or worthless and the seemingly hierarchical relationship between the emotional and the logical, the solid and the fragile. The work process consists of long clay sausages being intuitively assembled into larger structures. In these constructions, the open, negative spaces are as important as the structure itself. The joints or nodes distribute the load of pressure and weight and are both the bearing and the critical element of the structure.

The clay is stressed to the maximum by speeding up the drying processes. This means that each "length" contracts quickly, which creates great tension in the construction. However, she does not search for the collapse, but she looks for the breaking points and the sustainability, - where the constructions still hold - despite breaks and strains. At Studio K, she exhibits parts of the project Som noe brister og annet bærer. She will, through interaction with the audience, create structures which are then assembled into larger constructions which will be fired and included as part of the project.
